About Heritage Pipe Organs

Louis Rothenbueger and Larry Ploetz formed the partnership of Rothenbueger & Ploetz in 1992 following the first closure of Schlicker Organs, Inc. Louis brought decades of his Schlicker experience as organ builder and in particular, head-voicer to the partnership. Larry worked in Schlickerís service department prior to joining Louis in 1990 as Schlickerís tonal finishing team.

Our plan was to provide a service company for churches that were seeking an experienced team of craftsmen to care for their pipe organs. The business grew and soon Rothenbueger & Ploetz were being asked to add rebuilding and tonal modifications to their business model.

The workload continued to grow until it was obvious that we needed a complete shop and inventory to complement our business. We approached Donald Bohall, former Schlicker service manger and founder of Heritage Pipe Organs, Inc. to seek the use of his shop for our projects in exchange for assisting him with his projects. This collaboration worked well as Donald was approaching retirement. The search for a successor to his business ended as Rothenbueger & Ploetz purchased Heritage Pipe Organs, Inc in 1998.
